The Best CHOWDA & CLAMCAKES

We're extremely happy to be back in Narragansett and we'll miss all of our out of town friends who vacationed in Charlestown.  Thank you, for your patronage and take a ride to Narragansett, it's worth the trip!

Local Clamcake Legend Re-opens in Charlestown for First Season with
Full Dining and Entertainment Twist.

If you’ve been wondering where “The Best Chowda & Clamcakes in Narragansett” have gone, wonder no more.

The Starboard Galley, formerly located at that little shack at the south end of the Narragansett Sea Wall, from 1996 through 2006, is re-opening for its first full season at 1 Charlestown Beach Road in Charlestown.

This time there’s a lot more than take-out Chowder and Clamcakes in store for patrons: A full menu, beer & wine, a 30 seat dining room and a unique entertainment concept.

Molly Marks and partner Tom Silvia are 20 year veterans of the local restaurant scene. In addition to running the Starboard Galley in Narragansett from 1996 to 2006, they also owned and ran Terms Italian Restaurant.

In 2006 an expiring lease led Molly and Tom to the new location and the pursuit of a new dream…combining their love of food with their love of Music, Performance and Art.

“When we created the dining room (self decorated with an amazing array of pop, local and personal art in a beachy color scheme) we made provision for a performance space.” said Molly. We have an entertainment license and will showcase live music, comedy, dance and other entertainment. But we’re also going to mix music with art interpretation.”

“Just imagine...someone creating an improvisational-interpretive painting to Louie Armstrong’s “It’s a Wonderful World” or songs from “Fiddler on the Roof” as the music is playing, said Molly, an artist and equity actress herself (over 20 years with the Kaleidoscope Theatre, the Mystery Café, the Westerly Granite Theatre, extra in “Meet Joe Black” to name a few credits). To date the entertainment schedule includes “Black Strap Molasses” Swing dance music, Russ Partridge and Rick Chartier solo guitarists, and Billy Mitchell, singer/songwriter presenting “Beach Songs, Bar Songs and Sing alongs”. The full schedule can be found at www.starboardgalleyrestaurant.com.

But it’s really about the food. “Our mission is to get people hooked on Chowder and clamcakes...one bowl, one cake at a time.” said Tom Silvia. “In addition to Molly’s grandmother’s recipe for chowder and my original Clam Cake recipe, our menu has one not-so-secret ingredient: Fresh quality seafood. No fish is ever frozen.”

“Tom spent 20 years as a commercial Lobsterman so he knows his seafood” says Molly. “Plus he’s a generous guy, so skimpy portions are not in his DNA”.

“We’re looking forward to seeing our old friends at our new location, but we do have a slight name recognition problem” said Molly Marks, “Our old location in Narraganset had two signs: one on the building that everyone could see said “The Best Chowda & Clamcakes in Narragansett”; the one on the street that few people saw said “The Starboard Galley”. So now we want everyone to know here we are in Charlestown!”

The Starboard Galley Restaurant is located at 1 Charlestown Beach Road in Charlestown is open daily, in season, from 11:30 AM to 9 PM Monday through Wednesday and from 11:30 AM to 12:00 AM Thursday through Sunday and can be reached at 401- 364-7100 or www.starboardgalleyrestaurant.com.
